Biography
Born and raised in the Hingashi region Katsuna’s sickened father raised her alone. To the Samurai warrior she was a curse child as her traumatic birth not only took the love of his life away from him but also stole his child’s sight as well. He never would forgive Katsuna and blamed her for this misfortune, but still couldn’t find it in him to leave her helpless to the world. Though stern and cold towards her, he trained her to use her heightened senses to her advantage, even finding ways to wield a bow with surprising accuracy thanks to the help of a seeing eye hawk. As he grew ill, and the sicker he became, the urgency to prepare her for a somewhat independent life was grew day by unpromised day.In turn Katsuna never did forgive her father for selling her off to a Kugane Okiya. Then again, she never truly knew her father was even sick. He kept this worry from her and did what he knew he could with what little time he had let to offer. Here she would begin her life as an entertainer, learning the many arts of Geisha to which her impressive skills were something to be in awe of. Her Oka-san did shift her focus for her girls from simple tea houses to that of the Hingashi underground entertaining Yakuza companies. While dangerous for them all the Oka-san found most profit in the underground and subjected them all for her own benefit. Though her time there was long, and rough she paid off her debts to the Okiya and became the independent Geisha she strived to achieve.Katsuna still struggled with finding happiness, now that she was not tied to the Okiya, she was still entertaining in Kugane but her true calling came to that at the Kami Temple. She devoted much of her free time tending to the many shrines of Hingashi region and finally finding purpose to her hardened life. Committing to the Miko lifestyle Katsuna finds herself most at peace, offering spiritual guidance when called upon and devoting herself to the will of the Kami.
Blind Attributes Explained
Due to Katsuna’s blindness her other senses are extremely heightened. She is able to detect potential targets thanks to her hawk who will give a screeching signal as it passes its target. She also has a unique ability to detect pain based upon a person’s heartbeat. Her heightened abilities can sometimes also detect deception in a person’s speech. She is very spatially aware due to these heightened sensations that she can easily avoid bumping or tripping over things; she can also easily navigate areas so long as she is already familiar with them. Even with these abilities she is still very flawed and still struggles with many things that a sighted person does normally but can adapt as best she can.
Seeing Eye Hawk Explained
Species: Eastern Hunting Taka
Origins: Native to the Yanxia Region, these Hawks are known for their ability to spot and retrieve small game at great speeds which makes them favorable for hunting.
Katsuna has owned many of these Hawks during her life, she does her best not to get too attached to them but it’s always hard when some outlive others. During her younger years training in Kyudo with her father he was the one who suggested it and trained them for her originally. They were fast enough for their purpose, to signal for targets as they flew past them. In the beginning she tended to kill many, usually striking them with arrows until she adapted to the sounds. Once a hawk completed this training they were trained in helping guide her around. She names them all Taka and the number of the hawk preceding the one prior, she is currently on her fifteenth hawk it’s name is jū go taka.

The Kami's Chosen Sufferer
Katsuna has slowly been developing a strong spiritual sense the more she accepts her cursed soul. Becoming more aware of the Kami spirits, yokai and oni who linger upon the mortal plain. The spirits of the east are well aware of the cursed shikigami spirit that plagues her. A spirit that feeds upon suffering and misfortune, the Kami would rather keep the evil creature contained. In order to do so they have chosen the host to suffer to help state the hateful beast within. It’s been these other unworldly spirits that have brought chaos to her dark world, tripping her up along the way. So long as this cursed spirit dwells within Katsuna at the expense of her luck and wellbeing, the better off for everyone.
